Benefits of membership

With JGSI, you’ll find lots of opportunities and resources to assist you in your family history research.

Learn from expert lecturers, get individual help at our help desk, use our 800 volume reference library at monthly meetings, access the JGSI Jewish Chicago Database (data from cemeteries, memorial plaques, obituaries, and Chicago Jewish institutions), meet other genealogists (and possibly relatives!).

When you become a member of JGSI, you get even more:

  • Members-only meetings on subjects like genetic genealogy, genealogy in Chicago, and open Q & A sessions
  • A Virtual Help Desk and one-on-one help sessions with experienced JGSI volunteers.
  • An Interactive Members Forum (ask and answer questions and read discussions)
  • Morasha, our award winning Jewish genealogy newsletter (3 issues per year) with online access to current and prior issues (Here is a sample issue from the recent past)
  • Access to members-only databases, such as Jewishdata.com (gravestone images from Jewish cemeteries and other records)
  • Video recordings of many past presentations and downloadable handouts
  • Online access to text and handouts from our past full-day genealogy conferences
  • Online membership directory (find individual research help using the “members helping members” feature)
  • Participation in the JGSI DNA project (See your DNA results aggregated with those of other members.)
Membership also helps support JGSI projects such as the digitization of the Chicago Jewish Post & Opinion, the Guide to Chicago's Landsmanshaften, and the Chicago Jewish Names Database.
