kehilath jacob beth samuel MEMORIAL PLAQUES224 plaques in database Founded in 1890, a young Benny Goodman played in a band at Kehilath Jacob at 3757 W. Douglas Blvd. which was completed in 1915. The group merged with Congregation Beth Samuel in 1956 and moved to 3701 W. Devon Ave. in west Rogers Park. According to ChicagoAncestors.org, this congregation was founded by the merger of Kehilath Jacob and Beth Samuel in 1956. Kehilath Jacob moved from Hamlin and Douglas, while Beth Samuel is listed at 3441 W. Peterson the previous year. The dedication of the new synagogue was reported in the Chicago Tribune of March 11, 1956. According to Synagogues of Chicago, a Facebook group, the congregation disbanded and closed, selling their building at 3701 W. Devon Ave. to a Kollel that had been renting a nearby location. The group was associated with Beth Jacob Cemetery; also known as: "Keheleth Jacob Cemetery", "Kehilath Jacob Anshe Drohiczen Cemetery", and "Morton Grove Cemetery" located on N. Waukegan Road in Morton Grove, Cook County, Illinois. |
