Jewish Genealogical Society of Illinois |
The Erster Krinker Unterstitzungs Verein was organized in 1915. The Ladies Auxiliary was organized five years later, in 1920. In addition, there is a First Krinker Aid Society section at Waldheim Cemetery, located at Gate 225. According to Sidney Sorkin's Bridges to an American City, there were six groups which went by the name Krinker, two of which met in the old Jewish Peoples Institute in the 1930s. In 1922, the verein had a membership of 120 and the Ladies Auxiliary has a membership of 70. The group is named for the town, which is located northeast of Bialystok.
There are three volumes in the collection of Erster Krinker Anniversary Books:
The Souvenir of the Twenty Fifth Anniversary, Chicago Oct. 20 Anniversary book has 84 pages and is primarily in Yiddish. Page 5 has a picture of fourteen men from the "25th Annual Jubilee Committee". The 30th Anniversary Banquet Celebration Krinker Aid Society and the 25th Anniversary of the Ladies Auxiliary book has 82 pages, consisting mainly of compliments and tributes.
