West Side Jews vs. South Side Jews
Mark Mandle, a sixth-generation Chicago Jew, will present his program “West Side Jews vs. South Side Jews” at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at the Jewish Genealogical Society of Illinois meeting in Temple Judea Mizpah, 8610 Niles Center Road, Skokie.
Mandle will explain how Jews have lived all over the city and suburbs, but their past concentrations in West Side and South Side neighborhoods have defined much of their current community. He will comment on their accomplishments and contributions and examine their decline and fall.
Mark Mandle has given many lectures on Chicago Jewish history and led many tours of Jewish neighborhoods. He is a former board member of JGSI and the Chicago Jewish Historical Society.
The JGSI meeting facilities at Temple Judea Mizpah will open at 12:30 p.m. to accommodate members who want to use or borrow genealogy library materials, get help with genealogy websites on the Internet, or ask genealogical questions before the main program begins.
