The Jewish Graceland Cemetery project began in the 1980s. Norman Schwartz provided the early inspiration, essential guidance, and much of the original work. JGSI volunteers spent many hours at the cemetery recording gravestone information and locations. This information was indexed and recorded in an off-line database which has helped many people over the years.
The North section (Gate 1) and the South section (Gate 4) are owned by Alfred Weiss. Phone: 847-287-2472; Email:

The two center sections (Gates 2 & 3) are owned by the Hebrew Benevolent Society. Maps of the cemetery are being prepared to aid you when you visit the cemetery at 3919 North Clark Street in Chicago.

Julie Levin directed the 2005 effort with help from Norman Schwartz, Mike Karsen, Michael Tarkoff, and Sandy Pakin. Mark Mandle was instrumental in the early days of this project and has written a
history of the cemetery.
We are especially grateful to Howard Eiseman and The Hebrew Benevolent Society of Chicago for their support of this project. We continue to work on this project and have future phases planned. If you have information about Jewish Graceland’s history or about people buried there, please share it with us.
