Program: "Reconnecting with My Lithuanian Roots”

Harriet Rudnit, a former president of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Illinois, will discuss “Reconnecting with My Lithuanian Roots” on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at the JGSI meeting. She will explain how her experiences on a ten-day heritage tour in June helped her to better understand Jewish life in the past and present in Lithuania. Important religious, genealogical, and historical sites in Vilnius, Kaunas, Trakai, Panevezys, and Ankysciai will be included in her presentation, which will begin at 2 p.m. at Temple Beth-El, 3610 Dundee Rd., Northbrook, Ill.

On Nov. 23, the JGSI meeting facilities at Temple Beth-El will open at 12:30 p.m. to accommodate members who want to use or borrow genealogy library materials, get help with genealogy websites or ask genealogical questions before the main program begins. The meeting is free and open to the public. For more information, visit  or phone 312-666-0100.

Harriet Rudnit, a semi-retired middle school and adult educator, has been researching her family and others for more than 20 years. She has shared her genealogical expertise in presentations for various groups, conferences, and libraries. Audience members have included Jewish and gentile genealogists, Jewish War Veterans; Orthodox, Conservative, or Reform congregants; Jewish women’s groups and men’s club members, public and Jewish school librarians, as well as Sunday school students and parents.
